SUMMARY

Legal education for young people (Katowice, Wrocław, Poznań, Warsaw)

Judges have long engaged in activities aimed at improving legal awareness of young people. However, they have been occasional, incidental, and not extensive. They frequently consisted in single visits at schools and talking to students. Several years ago judges affiliated with the Silesian Chapter of the Association of Polish Judges Iustitia in Katowice decided to change it. They launched a long-term project called “Legal education for young people”. With time, they have been joined by other Chapters of our Association: in Wrocław, Poznań and Warsaw. In this way, the first legal education platform covering a major part of our country has been formed. The project is carried out as one of the statutory tasks of the Association, which include realization of a democratic rule of law, consolidation of judicial independence and concern for their authority, striving at complete fulfilment of human right and civil liberties, as well as building a positive image of the judiciary.
