Social rift as a result of the dispute over the Constitutional Tribunal

During the ongoing constitutional crisis invariably approx. 50% of respondents have accused the government of acts contrary to democracy. After the elections, the Law and Justice Party has not consolidated trust in society, and the Kaczynski’s party is seen by critics as a group that violates the standards of the rule of law in the country.

The dispute over the Constitutional Tribunal not only has had negative political consequences, but also has resulted in a loss of trust in public institutions and offices. Loss of credibility included not only all parties to the dispute, but by association also affected the public institutions related to the broadly conceived judiciary and law in Poland. In studies on confidence, low scores have been awarded not only to the Constitutional Tribunal, but also the courts of law and prosecutor’s offices. In the stalemate situation, it is difficult to have confidence in the state and public institutions and respect for the rule of law.

Key words: Constitutional Tribunal, constitutional crisis, democracy, rule of law
